Kris and Bob,
What a great tribute to both Dr. Diane and Rich! Thank you for sharing the photos. I am sorry to learn of their passing. I have many fond memories of the years I worked at Century Animal Clinic as a Veterinary Assistant. I always enjoyed a chat with Rich and his many stories - including watching the MN Twins during spring training in Florida. Dr. Diane taught me many lessons - sharing her veterinary expertise and also her keen business sense. May they both rest in peace and blessings to your family.

Kris and Bob,

My family and I just drove past Century Avenue in Maplewood and I was reminded of my work as a Veterinary Assistant at CAC. I will always be grateful to your mom for all she (and Drs. Evans, Bradshaw, Lechtman, and Henson) taught me as I sought to become a veterinarian myself. May both Diane and Rich rest in peace.

I believe I knew Richard when we were classmates at Immanuel Lutheran school 5 miles east of Rockwell City. The Richard I knew also had a brother 'Vernon' and some younger siblings. Richard and his family moved up north and I corresponded with him briefly afterward. The correspondence indicates that I liked and missed his presence. The same as for Vernon. I started this search because there is a Tim Sittig serving as police chief in Ft. Madison, Iowa and every time I read about him it takes me back those many years, and I am trying to decide if he (Tim) could be a relative to Richard /Vernon.
I wish I could have found Richard before this, perhaps there is a chance I can locate Vernon.

Dad's Words of Wisdom......
When I was a teenager, my dad always told me to travel and explore the world while I was young. As I got older, he'd tell me that I needed to learn to do nothing.
You were right dad!
So, even though I didn't travel and explore the world when I was younger, I'm trying to learn to do nothing. Those that know me well, know that doing nothing isn't on my "To Do List". But, I will try to do nothing from time and time and think of him. I love you dad. We are all missing you this holiday season and every day in between.

Rich became part of my life the day I started working at Century Animal Clinic. The minute he knew that I was raised on a farm/ranch in SD, he never forgot to ask me how my family back there was doing. The year of the Cattleman's Blizzard in SD, he was the only one I knew here that was devastated from the loss of cattle as much as I and those of SD. He had the love of the country as only those who are born into it, have. It never dies but becomes a light burning within that never goes out. Thank you, Rich, for this connection and memory. May your spirit be wherever your heart found joy.

I met Rich shortly after I met his daughter Kris in 1987. He was an interesting person who always had a story to tell. He became my father-in-law in 1991 and I'm proud to say I've known him for 30 years. I'm sure he's hanging out with his parents now and hopefully having a beer and fishing as well. 🙂
