Gone Fishin’
I’ve finished life’s chores assigned to me,
So put me on a boat headed out to sea.
Please send along my fishing pole,
For I’ve been invited to the fishin’ hole.
Where every day is a day to fish,
To fill your heart with every wish.
Don’t worry or feel sad for me,
I’m fishin’ with the Master of the Sea.
We will miss each other for a while,
But you will come and bring your smile.
That won’t be long you will see,
Till we’re together you and me.
To all of those that think of me,
Be happy as I go out to sea.
If others wonder why I’m missin’,
Just tell em’ I’ve gone fishin’.

Diane Carol Sittig was born on August 16th, 1942 in Waterloo, Iowa to Leo and Margaret Lincoln. A devoted animal lover who brought home every stray and injured animal she found, a forecast of things to come.
Education was very important to Diane. She graduated from East High School in Waterloo, Iowa. Her path then led her to attend college in Iowa and later Minnesota, where she was 1 of 5 women to be accepted into the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Minnesota.
Being a woman in a male dominated field, Diane had a lot to prove.
”I spent the first half of my 34 years listening to a variety of people tell me what I couldn’t do because I am female. I’ve spent the last half of those 34 years showing them just how wrong they were.” – Diane C. Sittig DVM
She was very successful in her 40+ year career as a veterinarian. Upon graduating in 1972, she started her own house call practice in Minnesota. Several years later, she moved to Iowa and opened Companion Animal Clinic.
Later, a move to Utah gave her the opportunity to take a position as supervisor at the Odgen Animal Shelter. Eventually, she returned to Minnesota and started another House Call practice that led to opening Century Animal Clinic in Maplewood, Minnesota.
Throughout it all, she had a very supportive husband. She married Richard August Sittig on February 10th, 1963. Their life together took them on many adventures to Utah, Colorado, Hawaii, Texas, Arizona and Montana. Aside from travel, Diane also enjoyed photography and flower gardening.

“I hope to make people realize how totally
helpless animals are, how dependent
on us, trusting as a child must that
we will be kind and take care of
their needs.”
~ James Herriot ~
